Daddy Time

One nice thing about being a teacher is summer's off. Sometimes I think I went into the wrong profession...ha! The school year is busy with Joe's coaching, but in the summer he really gets to spend some fun quality time with Cooper. Last week they had a day out.. and I guess Grandma isn't the only one 'wrapped around Cooper's finger'.. ha ha. Cooper and Joe went out and about for the day. Which included Cooper coming home with a new set of Toy Story figures. He was on 'cloud 9'.
So when I got home from work Cooper was fully engrossed with his new Toy Story guys.

Unpacking

We had a very productive weekend. Even though unpacking is a lot of work. And we still have a long ways to go.. its kinda fun slowly discovering all of our stuff. Most of it that has been packed up for at least 7 months, some longer. So we got some of our artwork hung.. and its really starting to look like home. The mantel is a work in progress, but that is what we have so far.

We put our retro metal signs in the kitchen. Our orange table is almost done.. stay tuned.

Some of our wedding pics and little 'this and that's' in the Master.

Its definetly coming along...

Furry Friends

Well we figured since we basically have a forest in our backyard.. ha ha. Just kidding. No but seriously with all of the trees we figured we would be experiencing a Disney scene of wild life in our backyard. Saturday morning we got our first dose of that. Not sure what we saw, but he was making himself at home.

Lots of Changes.. No More Rocking

Well tonight was a big milestone. And I'll have to say I'm a bit sad. For months I have been intending to ween Cooper from being held at all at bedtime. No more rocking and putting him directly into the crib. We've taking baby steps and slowing starting to holding him less for naps and bedtime. Putting him into the crib when he was sleepy but not totally asleep. For months I knew I needed to 'cut the string' and just lay him in the crib at bedtime, in order to prepare to soon move him into a toddler bed.. or to at least remove one side rail from him crib. I was kinda stalling knowing that we would be moving soon, figuring I didn't want to introduce too many changes into his routine. I guess maybe part of that was just an excuse. I'll have to admit, I guess a little selfishly I wasn't ready to totally let it go yet. Getting just that 10 or 15 minutes at bedtime to hold him.. still let me keep him as my baby. Instead of the big boy he is becoming. You never understand what its like to be a mother until you hold that baby in your arms. In the beginning when they are so tiny and so your awestruck with the miracle that is so precious and perfect that it just blows your mind. Then being able to nurse.. and to do it for a pretty good amount of time (10 months), it was our special little bonding time. Then he slowly weened from that. And lastly getting rocked at bedtime. Even here at the end it wasn't very long, maybe 5 or 10 minutes. But enough time to just sit in dark and quietness still in awe of that little miracle that is now so big he hardly fits into your arms. I'm sad but of course excited as Cooper continues to grow and to become his own little person. He is such a great little guy.

For the last few weeks we haven't been holding him before his nap, we just put him in there and he goes right to sleep. Last night we said our good nights and I walked towards the rocker, in the corner of his new room. And as I went to sit down, holding him he grunted and pointed to his crib. I said do you want to go into your bed.. and he nodded yes.  Fyi... he still isn't talking much. But he points, grunts and does some signing. Most of the time, Joe and I know what he is trying to tell us. So I layed him in the crib,  gave him one last good night kiss, and told him to lay down and 'go nigh night'.. and he did. He didn't say 'one peep'.

So there you go, he weened himself. So I guess its like other people say, the child will let you know when they are ready for something. That has proved to be true in many instances so far. Cooper has weened himself from various things. When the time was right for him. Its really worked out well. I'm glad we are learning to be flexible and that Cooper is helping to guide us along the way.

One more little milestone.

In Progress - Part II

This post is in progress.. but there are some pics of us working on the house. The last morning at Diana's house.. and then some current photos of the house with our furniture. Still lots to do.. and lots more photos to come, once we unpack more.

So the wallpaper really did take forever. In the above picture all I had left was a little bit between the bay windows, and in the window sills.

Since we were in a time crunch to have the room painted before we moved in, Joe started priming while I was finishing the wallpaper.

We rented a Uhaul a few weeks ago and moved tons of stuff from Diana and Charlie's houses. Yes, we have lots of stuff. But its sure nice to have a big empty basement.

The table after one coat of orange paint.

Looking good, can't wait to see it finished. Joe is working really hard on this.

Joe working hard at Priming the Dining Room.

The wallpaper... done.. FINALLY! I'm excited but kinda dellusional.. ha!

DIY Kitchen Table

So Joe and I are definetly not handy. At least we aren't really DIY-ers. I love that kind of stuff. And I'm really into decorating blogs.... go figure right? I kept seeing ideas of a re-purposed table. Painted a bright color.  So I found a few ideas with a traditional pedestal table and modern molded chairs and loved it! I thought if we could find a table to re-purpose on Craigslist.. with a miracle .. we could get a similar look.

Here are a few bits of inspiration that I had saved onto my Pinterest.

loved the aqua idea ....

Joe liked the orange......

THE TABLE

We ended up finding a round tradtional looking pedestal table on Craigslist. I wouldn't say it was 'the steal of the century', but it was a pretty good deal. Its what we wanted and in great condition... plus we were on a bit of a time crunch.

The chairs are obviously not our style. But it came with the chairs and two leafs. So we thought the chairs might come in handy someday. For a party if we need extra seating. Who knows maybe we'll paint them.. eventually.

A few coats of primer....

Making Progress ...

We have been working constantly at the new house. Joe has been painting alot. And my main project has been removing wall paper in the dining room. Wallpaper that covers about every inch of the entire room. Its been a project.. I'll be so glad to get it done.

The Master Bedroom is done. In a nice light blue.

Cooper's bathroom. His shower curtain will get hung.. once I find the box with the shower curtain hooks and liner.

His new alphabet shower curtain.

Cooper's bedroom. Painted light yellow and his NEW ceiling fan. Installed by our friend Tom.

New chairs for our kitchen table. We are doing a little DIY project for the kitchen table. More to come. I've always been a big fan of Midcentury Modern stuff. Especially the various famous styles of molded chairs. So we got the 'knock off' ones. No one will know. Plus we have a toddler.. and white chairs was already a gutsy move.. HA! Tune in later to see if we think that was a wise decision.

Regardless I love them!!!! Probably my new favorite piece.

Lots more to come!
